Isn't this a Stencyl template?

First, please don't submit things that come from templates or tutorials. They count as public files, since they're available to everyone. And when you do tutorials, you're not actually creating your own game. You're following steps to re-create someone else's game, and so, that's why they're actually against the rules. A lot of the characters in this came straight from the Stencyl files. Submissions must be your own creation.

This wasn't bad, as far as it looks good and the controls work. The music was good. It was actually pretty cool, but short. The jumping mechanic seemed a bit less controlled than I like.

Also, unfortunately, you can't use Nintendo characters in games. Their lawyers contacted us a while back and we had to remove a lot of content that used their characters.

Since it has copyrighted Mario characters and Stencyl content, and since it's so close to a public file template or tutorial, it will be removed.

Keep working at creating things. Just make it all your own.

You're on the right track, tho.

Good luck. :)

@Exedor,

wow! there's a lot of stuff you said back there that I wasn't aware of, for sure. however, I appreciate the heads-up immensely and will make the necessary changes in the game in my second project.

thanks for the critique. I believe it was much informative and it is much appreciated.

The control scheme needs help. Don't use the shift or control keys. The face flash was annoying, since you're trying to run away. And, the enemy can come thru the walls and floor at you, which sux. Is there a way out of the building?

GhostwareStudios responds:

no sadly but this was only prototype for my real game

Please don't submit unfinished things to the Portal. If people submit unfinished things, then this will become an unimpressive site. Would you hang out on a site where none of the movies or games are completed? Think about it.

If you want feedback, tips, and ideas, that's fine, but this isn't the best place for this. The Portal is for finished items. The Forums are what you want. Load this into your Dumping Grounds. If you don't know, it's the third icon from the left at the very top of the page when you're signed in. It looks like a bucket with an arrow pointing down. Once it's loaded there, copy and paste the link into the Forums (Community>Forums). That way, people see it and give tips, which is what you want, but it's not in the Portal, filling your account with low scores or blams, which you don't want.

thanks!!!

Well, it works decently. But there's just not enough to it yet. It's not ready to be put up yet.

With that being said, please don't submit unfinished things to the Portal. If people submit unfinished things, then this will become an unimpressive site. Would you hang out on a site where none of the movies or games are completed? Think about it.

Cracz responds:

This originally came from tutorial which I later on updated with my own stuff, as you know there is no person who can do things without getting help either from tutorials or from other people which means its impossible to make things as my own as coding was already done and that makes things as I am just copying and not making them myself! As far as I know this is my game because I have put my own work into it even though there are parts of it that were not originally my creations! Redesigning other people's objects makes them mine as far as I know.
If the work was simply built upon only from tutorials then it would be against the rules, but how do you know I made it using ONLY tutorials without any proven evidence whatsoever?
So big question is ,how can I upload a half finished game here so people could see only with my given link to them?

KittenLittle responds:

Thank you!! I had NO idea that putting up tutorials wasn't allowed!!! I'm sorry!!!! I also wasn't aware of a dumping file. Honestly I was just proud that I had managed to recolor and change minuscule things.

The first platform HAS to be a normal platform. If I take too long getting from the mouse to the arrow keys, the platform will disappear before I can run to the end and get to the next platform. It also doesn't reset with the game, so when you fall and restart, the platform is already half gone. Since the controls are key-based, not mouse based, consider using the space bar to start/restart the game, so all hands can be at the ready when it starts.

cs90 responds:

Thanks for your feedback. In testing I was using W,A,S,D to move so my left hand was ready to move and my right hand was on the mouse, but I'll have a look at having some kind of delay when the level resets to give the player time to ready themselves with the controls. Did you mean the very first platform in the game or the first platform of each level? If it's just the very first one then I will just extend the time it takes for that particular platform to explode.

As for not resetting, I can't seem recreate that problem. Everything except the 'lives' & 'time' should reset when you fall. Which level was it happening on?

Thanks

...somehow, this math doesn't add up.

Otherwise, it's ok, I guess.

It's not bad, but we either need to self-fire, or he needs to fire faster. If you don't start blasting that asteroid as soon as it comes in the top, you won't be able to destroy it before ti gets to the bottom and/or hits you. Otherwise, it's good.

ShapeshiftingMike responds:

Thanks for the feedback.
The main gun is manual now.

All asteroids need to be struck 3 times before they explode, that number
rises at higher waves.

My logic was that the side weapons would be used to dispatch
hard situations.

It looks fun, but the controls need reworking; they're too scattered. You must not have a Qwerty keyboard. Those of us who do find that WASD or the arrow keys are best for movement. Up/W is good for jumping, unless there are ladders to climb. With the current setup, the drill button requires the use of the fingers that are being used as the movement controls, thus, you have to either stop moving to drill, or twist the hand in an uncomfortable way to hit the key. :\

javurtez responds:

I really thought the controls were easy.
- If you're used to WASD movements use the J to drill and K to jump.
- If you're used to Arrow keys use the Z to drill and X to jump.
