When it messes up...

Quickly replace the non-working file with something that will make a blank white background or a message like: "This is broke. Please Blam."

If the viewers see anything working, they'll assume it's just thier stuff that's not working and they may still vote it thru. If you replace the file with a blank screen or a message, it'll get blammed and you'll be ok, and can resubmit later when it's working. If you replace the broken file with a working file, you're score will be reduced by the vote on the non-working version.

It's always better to HELP the bad one get blammed so you can get a real score on the working version.

Zriku1 responds:

Derp

It was good for 3 levels.

Then, the targets came. You can't miss a single target, which I understand. But there are platforms in the way, which block your shots. If you're on the platforms, they can be as high as half the page, which cuts your response time in half, and you can't shoot down thru the platforms, so if you don't hit it by then, you're probably going to fail the level. Again. It'd be better if there were either less targets, or you needed 25/30.

The fastest gun is the pistol, but even with the cowboy upgrade, it still gets too aggravating after you played the same friggin level 24 times and still can't move on.

I'd upgraded the pistol to over level 14, but speed or fire rate is never increased, just power and bonus $. Remove the platforms and/or make the gun faster and/or allow shooting thru the platforms or the game is basically DOA after level 3 or 4.

Yippers responds:

I really appreciate the detailed feedback, Exedor. :) You're definitely not the only one stuck on the target-shooting level, so level patching is in order! I'll revisit the weapon upgrades as well and see what bits I can tweak.

This has potential to be enjoyable.

But if you die, the game doesn't reset. I love the movements. The sounds are good. It has potential to be a quirky, fun game. But when you die, you have to refresh the page. Then you have to sit thru another ad and that Games Factory 2 animation each time, and that's way annoying.

ABNORMALarts responds:

Oh sorry. The frame reset might have bugged on a few frames, you should only have had to press R to reset. Thanks anyway!

The game seems ok...

But the resetting of the progress ruins it.

The guys don't go after who they need to go after. I'll drop a guy behind someone I need taken out, and they'll pass him up to go after other people. If I can't destroy who I need to destroy, it's bad. If I lose and then lose all my progress, then that's no fun. Games that aren't fun don't get played.

coffingames responds:

Thanks for the feedback. Hmm, maybe you are right, resetting of the progress could have been there only in hard and insane modes and not in normal mode. Unit AI, most people have liked, some have complained (with the analytics data gathered from game and feedback from a lot of different people). But I believe its really hard to make the AI that everyone likes. I will take care of things with broad perspective (like this) to handle them with extra care.

It looks good. It sounds good.

But it's horrible to play. There aren't nearly enough houses to support long term play. The presents don't give enough "life" for you to last more than a few houses. You can leave the first house full, but by the time you get to the second house, you're at less than 25% life. Despite getting 6 presents into the second house, I still had only about 1/3 life, which isn't enough to make it to house 3. If you miss a chimney, you're screwed. The highest I ever got was house 4, but not as far as it's chimney. There were many times I couldn't get to house 3 at all. If you miss house 1, you'll never make it to house 2.

it looks good, but it's no fun at all to play.

mymoog responds:

Thanks for the comments. I've increased the amount of 'life' you get from dropping presents :)

Stop it.

Stop submitting the same thing over and over. It says right on the submit page:

"Do not re-submit your entry after it has been BLAMMED without making noticeable improvements. It will be flagged!"

Although this wasn't blammed, submitting 7 versions of nearly the same thing counts as well.

The 'game' isn't bad. It's just not interesting to the masses. I was ok with this the first time. Maybe the second time. Now, it's annoying.

The score you have is the score that Newgrounders have given you. You need to deal with it.

PHENE responds:

You... You need to pull the stick out of your ass.

Don't use system keys as controls.

The game's not bad. I had several times where the controls either stuck or got ADHD and I fired extra ammo or rotated a half turn instead of just a bit, but that may be my computer.

The problem that you can address is the choice of keys. Don't use system keys for controls. Shift and Ctrl are system keys. If you use arrow keys for movement, then A, S, D, Z, X, and SPACE are all readily available for use, but won't cause the problems that Shift or Ctrl will.

Retronamic responds:

Thank you for the feedback! We really appreciate it.

Quite an interesting idea.

It would be nice to see something other than text, even if it's just a window with a line and dots. (Think: side view like Mario, but with nothing but a line and 2 colors of dots heading toward each other and disappearing when they are dead.)

Also, it would've been nice to have some info about your enemies so as to adjust the upgrades before the battle. If Bookahooka is resistant to Flotz, I'd like to know in advance so I can pump up my Plotz and Clotz. Ha! Someone who is reading that and hasn't played the game yet is thinking I'm a dork. ;) ..oh, wait. :\

:)

Rabid-Animals responds:

Resistances and weaknesses are random for each instance of play. Monsters won't have the same kind of reactions every game. Showing them beforehand would make the levels too easy. We'll consider the visual idea, though.

Thanks for the review!

The game looks fine...

But the time limit is way too short. That sucks all the fun out of the game.

BlackCrossGames responds:

I see you don't like a challenge... Well, I updated the time limit.

You have done a very rude thing. :(

Don't submit unfinished things! Normally, I hate to see parts and bits of flashes and games come thru. They're parts, not finished items, and Newgrounds is for finished items.

What you have done is worse. This is cool. I want more. I want to know what happens. I want to see the end. I was impressed. THEN you stopped it WAY TOO SHORT. That's like making an awesome dinner and then taking it away with only one bite.

So not only did you err in that you submitted an unfinished item, but you also put thru a painfully small taste of what could be a grand finished product, but you'll also now be stuck with a forever unfinished bit on Newgrounds- because you'll submit the finished item as a separate item, not replace this one.

That's too bad. Really. :\

Vagabondage responds:

As I said this is a proof of concept rather than a full game. It's a short animation with buttons. I wish I had the capabilities of making a real game, but I am unskilled in the ways of AS3 - in fact, it gives me a migraine. This serves as a sort of proposal for someone out there to possibly help me out. If I can't find anyone, I'll take on the daunting task of coding it myself. However, I'm glad it has struck interest in you and other viewers and I'll use the critiques here to create something much better and longer than what is shown.

Thanks for the feedback. :)
