You made this from a tutorial, didn't you. I used to think this was something that someone made. Not the best, not even good, but still playable. Then another came thru that's built the same exact way. And another. And another. Eventually, I figured it out- it's a tutorial from somewhere.

Because you haven't been around Newgrounds, you may not understand. There are LOTS of these around here. I don't know yet where exactly this tutorial comes from or what software it is, but I know it's the basic tutorial because there are so many of these that are exactly the same. Because they go under different names, it's impossible for me to show you how many, but they're all over the place.

This one is playable, but barely. It has the standard square box for the enemies to walk around. The enemies are the same as usual. It has the same guns from the tutorial cuz they weren't changed. There's no replay button, though. No music. No sounds. Maybe I should say that it's startable instead of playable.

I know it's your first game, but this needs a lot more work to be passable. Please keep working on it, but please don't submit every new template you finish like some people do. There was a guy last week who had 27 games which all had low scores because he kept submitting the same things with minor changes and nothing worked well. All his scores were in the 1.0 to 1.75 range. He got frustrated and deleted his account a few days ago. I don't think Newgrounds deletes accounts that are full of poor scoring items, but he sure qualified. He won't be missed. Don't be like him.

Practice and make something good, and when you enjoy playing your game, then we might enjoy it also. Make it the best it can be before you submit it. If it's only a game that works but isn't good or fun, the score will be low. No one wants their account filled up with low scoring stuff, right? Do your best, and good luck. :)

LambGamer responds:

Thankyou very much for the input i will do as you say maybe in a couple of weeks time i will resubmit it much better and more original thanks :)

This is a Stencyl tutorial! Please don't submit anything that comes from a game software tutorial. Do you realize how many of these are on here already?! No, cuz you're new.

Yours looks just like this one: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view /592450

And almost like this one: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view /590439

But at least this guy changed colors: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view /592752

Don't feel bad. It's a typical noob mistake. Hopefully, though, this review will help you to realize what goes on around here, since you've only been here a short time. People get Stencyl or The Games Factory 2 and they do a tutorial and they decide to submit what they created. The problem is that 75 other people have done the same tutorial in the last month, so 74 versions of the same game came thru. (One person had the sense to hold out.) If the game works 100%, then it helps, but more often than not, the tutorial produces a game that isn't 100% functional.

Listen to what people say in their reviews. They'll offer tips to help improve (well, some will). For this game, I'd suggest changing the jump button. If you're going to have arrow keys for movement, have an arrow key for jump as well.

Next, please DO what people tell you in their reviews BEFORE you submit another game. That way you've actually done something to improve what you have and you won't be submitting the same stuff over and over like this guy: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view /592285

Lastly, you could submit a new version with every change, like that last guy, but why waste your time and ours? Please finish your items before you send them in. Why submit half a game, y'know? Don't just finish it til it works, but finish it to the best it can be, and THEN submit it. That way, you won't have an account filled with bits and pieces of things. (...like that last guy.)

Hope this helps. :)

thekmanproductions responds:

I'm only using it as an engine my friend haha.

I'm changing everything when I get the time, if you don't like it. than I don't mind. But when I'm done with it, it will be better and the characters and all the details will be completely different. And as you can see, this is not submitted as full nor complete. But like I said, if you don't like it, than don't bother with it. At least I'm going to change it completely with my own characters either than those guys you listed! haha

The game was good. I found 8.

It was very difficult to figure out how to get around. The area was confusing and the controls made it more confusing. There were too many options available. In a picture, there may be 2 doors, plus a hallway, plus a window, but only one is a real path. Often when I would turn around (the circular arrows) the view was different than I was expecting. Even in the straight hallways, if you turn around, the hallway looks very different, which makes it confusing. You come out a door, but you'd turn around and the door wouldn't be there. In the room with the girl, when you re-enter, you have to go to the back of the room before you can turn around to go back out. Sometimes I'd go somewhere, but I'd turn around to go back, and I'd end up in a completely different place. For example, I went up the stairs, but when I came down the stairs, it was a different place than when I started going up. Also, sometimes I'd click on the stairs and get nothing but I'd click on the wall and go up the stairs.

The pictures were often too different when moving somewhere or moving closer to something, which made it confusing. To get the marble in the hole in the floor, you see the hole, you move closer to the hole, then you see the marble in the hole, which is good because it was the same hole in 3 views: far hole, closer to the hole, and inside the hole. To get the marbles in the mousehole in the left stall, you see two stalls with pipes and click the left one. You click on a hole and you get a new view, but the place you clicked didn't look like a hole, so suddenly you're in some new place and you don't know where or how you got there.

The idea and sound was good. The screamer in the right stall (opposite the stall with the 2 marbles) was annoying. I should get a marble as reward for being screamed at. The face on the other side of the pipe got me. Good one there.

What really sours this game is the navigation. It's so easy to get lost and difficult to get around quickly, and to keep a good idea of where you are and how you got there, and how to get back. I hope this all makes sense to you, as you know how the game is laid out and where everything is. Someone who reads this might not understand it until after they've played a few times.

This is a good idea, and I look forward to playing the next revision.

ProgressivegamesDLE responds:

Thank you very much for your review!
We always appreciate constructive criticism.
We are aware of the problems you are describing, but we chose to publish the game nonetheless, as it is merely an early beta test for some elements.
And congratulations on finding eight marbles, you're getting close to the high score!

Hey. Even if this author is a 9 year old girl, it doesn't mean that this should get praise it doesn't deserve. There's a reason more people play Street Fighter than Pong. One is just more fun. Just because it works or it's a first game doesn't mean it gets saved. The game works. The music is good. That's really all that's good about it. It's not interesting. It's not fun to play. Games are supposed to be either or both.

And if this person is a 9 year old, what's with the language against oiboy92 a few days ago? Doesn't sound kid-like to me. Isn't very mature, either.

You're supposed to be 13 or over to sign up on Newgrounds, so you're not supposed to be here anyway. This is not the place for you.

Newgrounds is not the place for 9 years olds to hang out. Sorry, but it's true. :\

TotalyPwnedPony responds:

oh, about the cussing, i was just really pissed off about these trolls, also a message to the other people: i am still working on V2.1 but it will take me a very long time to finish, idk ALL about flash yet so i am still learning. thank you for your patience i will try my best to make it worth playing for. ^_^

Put more levels or pictures in! Stop submitting ones with only one picture! They were ok at the start, but you need to put more into these now.

Archbob responds:

Ok, I'll try to do that on the next one. But the software I use to make these puzzles freezes every few seconds so it takes a while to make one.

I realize this is for little kids, but any kids who would be entertained by this are too little for Newgrounds.

The game is slow when you want to click fast. It takes too long to be able to click again after you click the cards and especially after you make a match. On Hard Mode, everyone fails! There are 25 cards so you're always left with one extra, so there's no way to win.

Newgrounds is not a child-friendly site. This is geared at kids who are too young to be here, and Hard Mode is impossible to win.

fun4emmy responds:

Thanks for letting me know about the bug. I just updated it with a fix.

The game doesn't look bad, but it's too fuzzy.

It's the controls that kill it. The keys are too disorganized to make it playable and fun. Use the arrow keys. If you need to run, press the Space Bar. As it is, the keys are too far apart and varied.
0/5 2/10.

Sko-J responds:

I find the keys quite reachable if your right hand is over the up key and left hand is over S and F and obviously just spread your fingers apart slightly for the run keys which are the next keys in each direction, i chose this because to many games have the same designated keys thought id make a change Lol thanks for the commets though.

There's only one level. There needs to be many levels.

rleyfield responds:

Fixed!

Don't submit loaders; submit your game!

dcode responds:

I'd love to, but the game has been written in Java so there is no other way. I am currently trying to improve this, though :) Kind of a special implementation just for NG!

Not bad.

You forgot to add a high score link on the main menu. What good does it do to have high scores if no one can access them til they submit their own score?

Other than that, it was a decent game.
