Actually, it's not bad. I do have some suggestions, tho:

- Use both the WASD keys and the arrow keys. That way, it's more comfortable for people to play. I'm having trouble with my left hand, and really could've benefoted from using hte arrow keys.

-Use the space bar to start/restart. It's easier than picking up the mouse and then going back to the keys to play.

-The power ups need to stay in longer. If it's a bullet hell game, often you just plain can't get to the side of the screen that the powerup is going to.

-Speed up the Game Over screen and let me play! Having the option to restart straight from the Game Over screen and bypassing the menu is a big help. Pressing space to restart is convenient.

Batterry responds:

you are absolutely correct on those arrow keys, some people like WASD and some people like the directions, I shouldn't have made people feel uncomfortable that way, plus its a very common feature. Space bar suggestion and speeding up the games non game play downtime makes a lot of sense, ill be sure to still have those animations, but make them easily skippable. as for the difficulty of the game, i knew it was a bit hectic, but I felt that having a game that was on the difficult side would mean more to the people who are looking for a challenge. It can be frustrating to get those upgrades and not be able to get them.

The idea is great. The looks are great, though dull. The story might be great once I figured it out, but this is way to scattered. I beat the game, and yet, I'm not sure exactly what happened. I found the green thing and won, but I'm not sure why as I don't know what it was. I assume it's anticote, since I saw something about 'poisoned' in a letter. That's all I could read before it went away.

-Add instructions so we have some idea what we're to do before we start.
-The blackouts last too long. They're boring.
-The waking times are too short, although, you had that 10 second thing going, didn't you. That's forgivable, I guess.
-When reading, stop the clock so we can read.
-Not sure what the clock is for, though it's cool. Is it the 10 second counter?
-Needs gumshoe music.

The potential is there, and now that the contest is over, you have the freedom to alter and enhance. Add and tweak and see what you can turn this into. :)

Thanks for all the comments, especially this one. This was my very first Ludum Dare, and the dev group I'm in assures me that suckage is a general byproduct for first-timers. So I regret nothing! Except for the hours I spent creating a far larger 3D environment that I ended up not using.

This Ludum Dare theme was '10 Seconds', so this is my answer to that: you have ten seconds of clarity each time.

Yes, it's SUPPOSED to be annoying. :P A point and click exploration game that doesn't let you do much, because you have ten seconds of consciousness, and about six minutes to get through it all (you're supposed to die at Midnight...). Instructions are there, sort of, but you have to read the two messages to understand what's happening.

I admire the Ludum Dare games by Matthew Divito, aka Mr Div, very much and this was an attempt to imitate what he's done, in economy if not in visual amazingness. Look him up!

Make it so we can play as a guest. I'm already signed in. Here, anyway. I don't want to have to sign in or sign up for someplace else in order to play on Newgrounds. You came to us with this, so please make it playable for us.

Because there is PVP in the game, so that we decided to use online save to make sure players can access their profile anywhere.

Isn't this a Stencyl tutorial?

Please don't submit things that come from tutorials. They count as public files, since they're available to everyone. And when you do tutorials, you're not actually creating your own game. You're following steps to re-create someone else's game, and so, that's why they're actually against the rules. Submissions must be your own creation.

This wasn't bad, as far as it looks decent and the controls work, but it should, since that's what tutorials do. Since it's a Stencyl platform tutorial, it might be removed.

Keep working at it. Just make it all your own.

Good luck.

I would love for you to explain to me just what part is from a tutorial. I created this from a blank game. I gave credit to all artwork that I used. The game is on StencylForge as well. Feel free to download it and look through the behaviors and then you can see that none of it is "from a Stencyl platform tutorial"

Did you make sure it worked before you submitted it? On the first level, in the 3rd(?) room, there's a high platform on the left and a short one with an alien on the right. I can't make it on to that platform. I can't jump or I'll hit the roof. I can't run and land on it; he misses every time. If I can't get over there, then I can't proceed. Who wants to play a game where you can't get anywhere? :\

kcazingy responds:

Jump right before you fall off the platform and you should easily clear the alien. I am aware of some of the bugs and I am working to fix them as we speak but that isn't one of them. It isn't easy true but it is possible.

actually the stencyl tutorial is to create mambo jambo which has no connection to this game which i made by myself without any tutorial, please check your facts :D

Please do not submit tests or incomplete items to the Portal. If everyone submits parts and bits and incomplete things, who will want to come to Newgrounds? Now, there are domos on here, but this is nowhere near the demo stage. There's just not enough yet.

If you want feedback and tips, that's fine, but this isn't the best place for this. The Portal is for finished items. The Forums are what you want. Load this into your Dumping Grounds. It's the third icon from the left at the very top of the page when you're signed in. It looks like a bucket with an arrow pointing down. Once it's loaded there, copy and paste the link into the Forums (Community>Forums). That way, people see it and give tips, which is what you want, but it's not in the Portal, filling your account with low scores or blams, which you don't want.

Good luck.

sonik1 responds:

I guess so...

It was ok, until...

It told me to click purple, but there was no purple. I clicked red or blue, thinking it might combine them, but nope. Died. Retried...

It split to 4 this time. It told me to click orange, but there's no orange. Been waiting while I type this, but still no orange.

I guess it needs to be told not to ask for a color that's not available at the time it's requested.

BearTreeGames responds:

Yeah, sorry. its a small problem being fixed. Thanks for the feedback :)
